The Iraqi government has vehemently condemned the recent airstrikes conducted by the US military against numerous sites in Iraq and neighboring Syria, labeling them as a breach of Iraqi sovereignty.
General Yehya Rasool, spokesperson for Prime Minister Mohamed Shia al-Sudani, stated that these airstrikes represent a clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty and warned of their potentially disastrous consequences for Iraq's security and regional stability.
According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the airstrikes targeted over 85 locations in both countries, utilizing various aircraft and more than 125 precision munitions.
US President Joe Biden announced that these strikes were the initial response to a drone attack that resulted in the deaths of several soldiers at a remote US base in Jordan. Biden emphasized that such actions mark the beginning of a series of measures by the US, which will continue as deemed necessary.
In retaliation, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq conducted missile strikes on the Ain al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq, housing US forces, along with attacks on the al-Tanf military base in Syria and the al-Khadra Village in northeastern Syria.
